NY MoreFitness Half Marathon Honoree!!
Hi All, I was in NY April 13-14th for the MoreFitness Half Marathon in which they were celebrating their 10th year anniversary and they also decided to honor 10 outstanding and empowering women who are making a difference in this world!!!!! To celebrate 10 incredible years of the More® Magazine/Fitness® Magazine Women's Half-Marathon, we're honoring Women who Run the World—fearless game-changers who've paved the way for women over the last decade. These leaders will no doubt inspire you to run faster, train harder and work smarter. As you train for your 13.1 mile journey, we ask you, who inspires you to Run the World? #womenruntheworld I seriously was floored when I got the news from Oakley that they were wanting to honor me. It's such a special feeling to be noticed and honored but also humbling. When I look around me at all the amazing and inspiring people in my life I think I could hand out trophies to people everyday. So when it comes to being honored myself it is true I feel a bit unworthy but so so truthfully grateful and thankful that my life has made an impact and inspired others through the pursuing of my dreams of turning from a model to a professional athlete!! So thank you to you all as well for always standing behind me and supporting me!!! It is kind of special to have been on the cover of Fitness magazine a few times and then to know they have watched me transition into a professional athlete!! Anyway just wanted to share this with you! St Croix 70.3 is coming up fast on May 5th. I've had a few set backs health wise and other life issues... but am as excited as ever to head there and give it my best on that day!! More to come!!! :)   Read More

Athlete Profile - Gretchen Bleiler
Gretchen Bleiler almost never became the snowboarding sensation that she is today. Born in Ohio, it wasn’t until she was 10 that the family relocated to Aspen, Colorado, and her life in and around snowboarding began and eventually blossomed. Now Bleiler is a two-time Olympian and silver medalist, a four-time X Games gold medalist and has more contest hardware than she would ever want to try to display in one place.  Since Gretchen discovered her passion she has been at the forefront of snowboarding, winning countless titles and awards, appearing on talk shows and traveling the world like a jet-setting celebrity. Despite all of the media attention, the Aspen local is still the girl she always has been, never too busy to smile and say hello. Her glowing personality, combined with sheer talent, have rendered her a true role model and pioneer in the sport. Read More

Good Eats: Honey Salmon & Chickpea Puree Recipe
http://www.womensmovement.com/good-eats-honey-salmon-chickpea-puree-recipe/ Stowe, the quintessential Vermont hamlet, has mountain recreation figured out. In winter, skiers slalom down the 100-plus trails of Stowe Mountain Resort, and snowshoers explore forests for frozen waterfalls. In summer, visitors choose from an overwhelming menu of activities, including mountain biking, road biking, fly fishing, canoeing or kayaking. Come evening, the best base camp is undoubtedly Stowe Mountain Lodge, located in the middle of the resort, right at the base of Mt. Mansfield. The lodge’s aesthetic can best be described as cabin chic, with exposed timbers, walls of stone, and plenty of glass to ogle the surroundings. Guestrooms have private balconies, fireplaces, custom-made local lamps, and art from regional artists. But the best part, in our opinion, is the food. (Thankfully, in such a setting, one thing you can count on is a good appetite.) Chef Josh Berry oversees a restaurant and bar focused on sustainable, local food paired with organic and biodynamic wines from across the globe. This honey-glazed salmon recipe is just one delicious example of Berry’s simple, thoughtful, and healthy creations: Honey-Glazed Atlantic Salmon with Chickpea Puree, Shaved Fennel, and Kalamata Olives Salmon Ingredients: two 8 oz. salmon fillets 1 oz. local honey kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper Method: Heat a small amount of oil in a large sauté pan, season and sear the salmon on both sides. Remove the salmon from the sauté pan and place on baking sheet. Lightly brush the salmon with the honey and cook in a 350-degree oven until golden brown and cooked through. Chickpea Puree Ingredients: 4 cups chickpeas, drained 3 cloves garlic 2 large lemons, juiced olive oil & water salt and freshly ground black pepper Method: Using a food processor, blend the chickpeas with the garlic. Add the lemon juice. Add enough of the water to make the chickpea-garlic mixture become loose. Slowly add the olive oil until the mixture is smooth. Season with salt and pepper. To Serve: Place a small spoonful of the chickpea puree onto a serving plate. Gently rest the salmon atop the chickpea puree. Garnish the dish with thinly shaved fennel, orange segments, kalamata olives, and baby basil. Read More

Traveling with Oakley Women
10 days away from home is a long time for traveling. Thanks to Oakley Women, I could take all my must-have's with me, wherever I went in Czech Republic. I didn't go a day without my Oakley Women Factory Lite backpack because it had all the right pockets to keep my valuables safe and my things handy. The backpack is super comfortable and it is a light as it claims to be! I also love that you can fold the backpack into it's attached bag (which converts to a zippered pocket) for easy traveling.    If you are active, enjoy traveling or like a sporty "purse" to travel with, I would go with this backpack as it is perfect for any adventure in your life.    -Marni Sumbal, MS, RD, LD/N Trimarnicoach.com Oakley Women ambassador  Read More

Down But Not Out
Has it really been one month since I lay there staring at the ceiling in my hospital bed wondering how I  had come so close to death... my footing almost taken from beneath me... my story was almost in the last chapter... almost to the place where I was about to meet my Maker... and yet... again I knew it was not my time. How?? Because the way that day unfolded I knew my life still had a purpose and there were still more chapters to be written. I always thought how crazy it was to hear about professional athletes just dropping mid workout and everyone going... what happened??? They were so healthy, fit, and young!!! And there I was... almost that statistic. I honestly used to joke "oh that would be the best way to go... just drop dead while doing something you love" BUT I WAS JUST KIDDING!!! Thankfully God knew that. How to get someones attention... 1) tap lightly on the door and whisper "hello? anybody home??" 2) knock normally... waiting for the door to be opened. If no one answers knock a bit harder 3) ring the door bell repeatedly. Enough that if anyone is there it will drive them crazy enough to answer "WHHHHAAAAT DO YOU WANT??" 4) and if all the above doesn't work.... just freakin' knock the door down and walk in!! To the expected surprise of the person indoors... as she looks up thinking why did you just knock my door down... when all you had to do was knock??? Ahem... we all know which one I was.... And so the next chapter is being written.... Where do I go from here. I've been asked a lot how I am feeling and what is the next step in the plan. So here is the update. Recap- Blood clots all throughout my lungs... so much so my pulmonary arteries were almost completely blocked... end result had I not gone in to see the Doctor that day. THE END. The past month- literally laying low, re-evaluating life, simplifying life and stress, researching a lot regarding being on blood thinners and recovery (6 months on blood thinners means a change in my life), letting my body heal, sleeping a lot, and mostly loving taking advantage of my down time by catching up on all the things I was missing out on or had missed the importance of while having my head down and driving forward pursuing my dreams of being a professional athlete and all that I can be... Key thing realized... when you are sitting there on your death bed it isn't all the trophies you have won or the training you are missing out on or the races or or or that you are thinking about... all you sit there and think about is the things that truly mean the most to you when you take away all life's accolades and pursuits.... all you want near to you at that moment is family and friends. Life is about relationships... and I sat there thankful to be alive still having the opportunity to spend quality time with the people in my life that mean so much to me... Don't get me wrong; living the dream and pursuing after one's desires is amaaaaaazing and I have never once looked back and said I made the wrong choice... there is purpose in everything, but what this moment did was make me realize never ever lose sight of the most important things in life. This time around... while I continue to pursue my dreams... I want to make sure my priorities are always centered and grounded around the things and mainly people in my life that I know bring true fulfillment, meaning, and lifelong memories. So after one month off from the rigorous life of just training and racing... I am slowly making my way back into this world with a peace in my heart and a focus and perspective change that has allowed me to take one day at a time and just smile at the process of writing the next chapter. I am down but not out... I am not able to race for a while, while on blood thinners but I am going to come back stronger than ever... it will just take time!! Patience is the key... and I know I need help with that.  Please keep me accountable... otherwise I may start sneaking in secret workouts haha. Thank you to everyone of you who has reached out and sent love and thoughts and prayers. Again.... I am blessed beyond reason and so so thankful for each and every one of you. The next chapter is beginning. Read More
